The Fourth Cup

"My Father, if this cup cannot pass me by and I must drink it, Thy will be done!" (Matthew 26:42) - this is how Jesus prayed in Gethsemane. Why did he compare his passion to drinking the cup? And if Jesus' sacrifice on Calvary is one and sufficient, why do Catholics believe that every Eucharist is a sacrifice? 

It was these questions that led young Presbyterian pastor Scott Hahn to explore the mysteries of the Christian Passover. He called himself Lieutenant Columbo. And indeed - he tracked down traces of the Eucharist with the passion of a TV series detective. What he discovered was the beginning of a conversion: the author became a devout Catholic, and the witness he gave with his life also led his family to the Catholic Church.

 The fourth and final cup of wine belonged to the ritual of the Passover feast. Why didn't Jesus give it to his disciples? Why did he interrupt the ritual? The answers to these questions will be found in Scott Hahn's fascinating book. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist!
